Text German. Scarce. Adolf Friedrich Albrecht Heinrich, Herzog zu Mecklenburg (1873-1969) was a German explorer in Africa and colonial polition. He led and partly funded the German Central Africa Expedition, 1907-1808 to the African Great Rift Valley. The expedition crossed Africa from east to west, beginning in Bukoba on the western shore of Lake Victoria continuing to Lake Kivu and the Congo region, and also the Uele River. The results of the Expedition were published in 8 volumes (1910-1927); the zoological reports comprising vols 3-5 (of which these are the first two). The zoological specimens from the Expedition are now housed in the Zoological Museum in Berlin.

2 vols, 8vo. Vol. I: half morocco, rubbed, minor wear to head of spine, marbled boards; Vol. II: recent half buckram, marbled boards, in matching style; both vols with raised bands + leather title pieces to spines. A very good set.
