Description:
First edition. Scarce in the original edition, particularly in good condition. An engaging account of a series of natural history and collecting excursions by the British entomologist J.W. Tutt (1858-1911). Although entomology, and particularly Lepidoptera, is prominent throughout, Tutt ranges more widely over the botany, ornithology and geology of the districts visited. Among the localities described are Cobham Woods, Cuxton Downs, Cliffe in Kent, and the Western Highlands of Scotland, with observations on their characteristic habitats and fauna. Illustrated with numerous woodcuts and full-page illustrations. Tutt was an important figure in British entomology and in 1890 founded The Entomologist's Record and Journal of Variation, which he edited for two decades.
