Description:

This catalogue is a compilation of faunistic and bibliographic data on the Diptera of Morocco. It lists 3057 species, classified into 948 genera and 93 families. Data were gathered from the literature published between 1787 and 2021. Each family was reviewed and the checklist updated by the respective taxon expert(s). Sixty experts in Diptera contributed to the work by reviewing and updating the checklist of their taxonomic expertise. For each valid species, synonyms known to have been used for published records from Morocco are listed under the currently accepted name. Where available, distribution within Morocco as well as some ecological data are also included. One new combination is proposed: Assuania melanoleuca (Séguy, 1941), comb. Nov. (Chloropidae). This document is the most up-to-date and most comprehensive review of Diptera of Morocco. It can form the basis for future taxonomic and faunistic studies both in Morocco and in neighbouring North African countries. It represents a national reference tool that fills a critical gap in the knowledge of Moroccan Diptera and will serve in planning future research.
