Description:
First edition of a scarce and charming work. Engraved title is undated, Preface and original owner's inscription to endpaper dated 1863. The book comprised an account of the author's natural history observations during 1861/1862, including trips to Islay and Clovelly. Charles Alexander Johns (1811-1874) was a schoolmaster and author of many popular natural history books.

Condition
Sm. 8vo, orig. green cloth, rubbed with mild wear to extremities, gt (decorative vignette of blue tit and walnut to front board), faint marks to boards; inner hinges cracked, but still firm. A bit shaken. Scattered light foxing, a little light soiling. Short tear to one plate. A good copy.
