Description:
2nd enlarged edition. Original edition published in 1945. During the 1939-45 war, the author pioneered a unique experiment in which Conscientious Objectors to military service volunteered as subjects for medical experiments. This was initially to combat the spread of scabies, a serious skin disease expected to damage seriously the efficiency of the civilian labour force and the armed services. This volume includes the account of this very successful experiment, first published in 1945. It is of particular interest not only as a little known chapter of the history of the war and as a human story of unusual fortitude of an often maligned section of the population.
