Description:

First edition. Sequel to Life and Letters of Charles Darwin (1887). The plate of Joseph Hooker in vol. II, p. 243 is not mentioned in the list of plates. Errata slip in Vol. II. Sir Francis Darwin (1848-1925) was a botanist and son of Charles Darwin. Francis Darwin's books on his father have provided the basis for all subsequent scientific biographies and papers on Darwin.

Condition

2 vols, 8vo, orig. blue publisher's cloth, rubbed, some wear to extremities, teg. Vol. I: front hinge cracked but firm. Label partly removed from endpaper; ink annotation to list of illustrations in Vol. II. Occasional light foxing; paper browned to margins. **This copy lacking the portrait of T.H. Huxley**.
