First edition. Sequel to Life and Letters of Charles Darwin (1887). The plate of Joseph Hooker in vol. II, p. 243 is not mentioned in the list of plates. Errata slip in Vol. II. Sir Francis Darwin (1848-1925) was a botanist and son of Charles Darwin. Francis Darwin's books on his father have provided the basis for all subsequent scientific biographies and papers on Darwin.

Freeman 1548, binding variant b. There is only one original printing, but Murray sold some sets of sheets to Watts & Co., which were bound in brown cloth rather than Murray's original blue cloth case. There is no indication on the title page of this change, but the imprint to the spine states 'Watts & Co.'.

Condition

2 vols, 8vo, orig. brown publisher's cloth, spine titles dulled, lighlty rubbed. Occasional light foxing. Small ink ownership stamp to endpapers. Vg.
