On Freshwater Crustaceans Occurring in the Vicinity of Christiania

Translated from Norwegian by A. Brettingen. Contains a translation of an unpublished manuscript by the 25-year old Georg Ossian Sars during a single summer's fieldwork in 1861, 'Om de I Christiana's Omegn forekommende Ferskvandskrebsdyr'. Sars received the Royal Gold Medal for the manuscript in 1862 - a prize for young scientists administered by the University (now University of Oslo). The manuscript, now deposited at the Department of Manuscripts, University of Oslo Library, also contains a large number of G.O. Sars' detailed and beautifully coloured drawings of cladocerans, which have not been published before.
