A substantial working reference collection assembled by the British dipterist Kenneth G.V. Smith (1929-2017), comprising papers and offprints relating to British diptera, 1899-1976, arranged in 18 cloth pamphlet boxes. Smith was a member of the Department of Entomology at the British Museum (Natural History) and became a recognised authority on Diptera, using such material extensively in the course of his taxonomic research and publications.

The collection is significant as a surviving part of the working library of an important twentieth-century British dipterist. Among the contents is a notable group of c. 100 papers by James Edward Collin (1876-1968), one of the foremost British dipterists of the preceding generation, concerning British and world Diptera and published between 1899 and 1938.
