Description:
1st edition. 40-page publisher's catalogue bound at rear. Frederick Webb Headley (1856-1919) was an English naturalist and author of books on natural historyand Darwinism. This work is based on two lectures presented to the Fabian Society in 1903, Neo-Darwinism and Modern Social Questions. The Fabian Society was influential in the development of socialist thought in Britain. In this work Headley examined how Darwin’s theory of natural selection could be applied to social and political ideas, particularly within the framework of socialism. This work was early effort to reconcile the ideas of biological evolution with socialist thought, and it contributed to the broader intellectual currents that shaped early 20th-century debates about society, progress, and the role of science in political change.
