Rare early account of the life of Rev. William Kirby (1759-1850), published two years after his death. Together with William Spence, Kirby wrote 'An Introduction to Entomology' (1815-1826), one of the founding texts of entomological science in English.

8vo, cont. full prize calf, gt, raised bands and leather title-piece to spine, marbled endpapers and edges, gt inner dentelles; rubbed/lightly scuffed to corners and edges; occasional spotting/light foxing. Vg. From the library of K.G.V. Smith (1929-2017), leading British dipterist at the Natural History Museum, London, and editor of the Entomologist’s Monthly Magazine - without his name, but an invoice to him from 1966 is enclosed.
